WHAT IS FUNCTIONAL MEDICINE?

bridget FM WHEEL-functional wellness.png

Functional Medicine aims to identify and address the root causes of health problems through a patient-centered, holistic approach. Functional Medicine fosters wellness, prevents illness, and optimizes health by delving into root causes. This involves a comprehensive assessment of lifestyle and of environmental and genetic factors to uncover underlying issues contributing to health concerns. Emphasizing the importance of lifestyle, Functional Medicine focuses on optimizing nutrition, physical activity, sleep, and stress management. Recognizing the uniqueness of each individual, treatment plans are personalized, including dietary changes, nutritional supplements, exercise programs, and stress management techniques. Functional Medicine practitioners spend a lot of time with patients, listening to their histories, addressing concerns, and considering the interactions among lifestyle, environmental, and genetic factors that influence long-term health. While medications may be used when necessary, the primary focus is on addressing underlying causes to reduce or eliminate the need for long-term medication.

OUR APPROACH

Functional Wellness with Bridget Mayer, PA

Modern lifestyle is wreaking havoc on gut health. It's common to experience a range of gastrointestinal symptoms, like bloating, irregular bowel movements, heartburn, and gas. Moreover, intestinal permeability, also known as "leaky gut," can lead to various downstream effects such as fatigue, mood swings, inflammation in joints and muscles, and autoimmune diseases. Gut Revive offers a functional medicine approach to heal your gut from the effects of modern living, including chronic stress, processed foods, poor diet, inadequate sleep, and certain medications. With a personalized plan, we can craft a program tailored to heal your gut and address the complications that may arise from leaky gut syndrome. We also look at heart health, analyzing your risk for heart disease and stroke where appropriate. The same problems that can cause gut health issues are often the same ones related to heart health!

Our Clients Say

Abby Horan.jpg

After enduring years of my primary care doctor dismissing my symptoms as just being, "an anxious girl," I met with Bridget while my regular doctor was on maternity leave. I am incredibly fortunate to have connected with her. Bridget listened to me attentively and took my concerns seriously. She conducted tests and referred me to a cardiologist for a proper diagnosis. This was well over a decade ago, and I am still immensely grateful to her. After that experience, I made the easy decision to have her as my main medical provider. After having jaw surgery a few years later, my surgeon disregarded my symptoms as an ocular migraine. Luckily for me, Bridget took me seriously. She promptly sent me to the ER, ultimately leading to an accurate diagnosis of a heart issue that was successfully addressed through surgery. If you are seeking a medical provider who genuinely listens and aids in identifying the root cause of your concerns,

I highly recommend choosing Bridget.
